Every once in awhile I hope to feature some of the wonderful vintage places in and around Portland. Today I have a few photos from McMenamin's Grand Lodge in Forest Grove (west of P-town towards the coast). For those of you not from the area, McMenamin's is a locally-owned hotel and restaurant chain that adaptively reuses historic buildings (such as funeral homes, poor farms, schools, etc.) for their facilities. They do a great job of keeping the historic charm and quirky character of these places. Grand Lodge was built in 1922 as a retirement facility for seniors and is now a hotel with multiple restaurants, gift shops, and gracious park-like grounds. The buildings are filled with an eclectic variety of artwork and I love all the little intimate spaces where guests can lounge around or read a book by the fire. Plenty of nooks and crannies to enjoy here! And Forest Grove is a cute historic town to explore as well. All in all, a great place for a daytrip or a weekend getaway.
