Brown Paper and String

Erik and I were so happy to receive these tiny parcels from my Mom: Fragrant wedges from her latest batch of homemade soap. Ever since I was given a copy of Tasha Tudor's Heirloom Crafts I've wanted to learn to make my own soap. In this book, Tasha talks about making laundry soap outdoors in a giant cast iron cauldron, stirring it carefully with a wooden spoon. Sounds like satisfyingly hard work! I would, however, certainly be content to learn a stove-top version of this handicraft. :-)
